Wampo is a personal project by Shunsuke Maeda. This policy explains what the Wampo app collects, how it uses that information, and where it is sent.

02 · Information we collect

Information we collect

Here is what the app handles.

Location (GPS)

We use location to record walk routes and to show weather and rain radar.

  • Walk routes: stored on the device.
  • Weather and suggested walk times: we send the latitude and longitude of your current location, or a place you saved, to Open-Meteo. The Home Screen widget sends latitude and longitude for the same reason.
  • Rain radar: we send nearby map tile coordinates to the Japan Meteorological Agency.
  • Arrival notification: the app checks on the device whether you are near a home location you saved. That home location stays on the device.

Camera and photos

We use the camera and photo library for your dog's profile photo and for photos you attach to a walk. On a walk's detail screen, the app may look at timestamps of photos on the device to suggest shots from around that walk. Photos stay on the device. We do not upload them.

Microphone and speech recognition

We use the microphone and the OS speech recognizer only when you start voice input for a walk-marker memo. Opening the app does not prompt for these permissions. Recognized text goes into the memo field. The app does not keep audio files or raw recognition logs. Speech recognition is an Apple or Google OS feature. We do not send audio to our own servers.

Notifications

Home-arrival alerts and reminders are local notifications. We do not send identifiers or location to a developer server to push them.

Apple Watch, Live Activity, and widgets

Walk progress and marker actions can appear on your Apple Watch, Lock Screen, and Home Screen widget. This stays between your own devices (Watch Connectivity and App Groups). Walk records are not sent to our servers this way.

Usage analytics (Firebase Analytics)

Only if you agree, we send a device identifier and in-app actions (starting or finishing a walk, switching tabs, adding a marker, and similar) to Firebase Analytics (Google). We use this only to understand usage and improve the app. We do not send walk distance or duration, route coordinates, photos, or dog profiles. Nothing is sent until you agree. You can turn it off later in Settings.

Automatic walk comments retired

In 1.16.0 (213) and later, AI-generated and on-device template comments have been retired. The app no longer generates or displays automatic comments, sends data to Gemini, or offers the dedicated setting. Manually entered marker comments, notes, and walk records remain available.

Older versions and past transmissions

In feature-bearing versions 1.16.0 (212) and earlier, automatic comments and external transmissions may continue until you update. Returning to an older version may also resume transmissions under previously saved consent. The following describes the feature immediately before retirement; sent fields and consent scope vary with the older implementation. Retirement does not mean previously sent data has been deleted from Google’s systems.

Only for completed walks with at least 20 minutes of total elapsed time, and only with your separate consent, the app checks eligibility on the device and sends walk categories directly to Google’s Gemini through Firebase AI Logic to create a short comment. It sends only the combination of walk topics and, depending on those topics, how you moved (walking or cart), a category for how long you paused, weather category, daylight, time of day, built-in marker types (pee, poop, favorite, or caution), a wording number, and display language (Japanese or English). These are categories only; no numbers such as distance, time, or counts are sent. Marker types and marker-derived topic categories are sent only for walks that end after you consent to this version. It does not send coordinates, routes, photos, videos, your dog’s name, free-form text such as notes, walk IDs, or exact start/end times. If you do not consent, the walk is under 20 minutes, generation fails, or the response is empty, invalid, or contains a prohibited expression, the app selects from varied on-device templates based on the walk. Gemini and template comments are saved once and are not generated or selected again for the same walk. The app checks Gemini text for prohibited expressions on the device, but cannot guarantee that every unintended expression is prevented. You can change this setting anytime in the app.

Earlier implementations sent rounded distance, total elapsed time including stops and stays, movement-mode breakdown, marker count, whether there was a stay, weather category, and display language (Japanese or English), as disclosed in the previous policy. The category-only description above does not apply to those earlier implementations or their past transmissions.

03 · How we use location

How we use location

Location is used only for the features above. We do not use it for ads, marketing, or to build a list of who walked where.

If you choose Always Allow, the app can keep recording the route while the phone is in your pocket. You can still start a walk with While Using the App.

We send data to these services for features, or for analytics after you agree. We do not send location or profiles anywhere else.

Connection and retention
The app sends data directly from your device to Gemini through Firebase AI Logic. It does not use a custom Gateway, Cloud Functions, or a developer-operated server. Firebase AI monitoring and Cloud Logging are configured not to retain prompt or response bodies. How long Google itself retains this data on its own systems is governed by Google's applicable terms and policies; we do not control or configure that retention.

These services handle the data under their own privacy policies, with protection at least as strong as what this policy describes.

05 · Storage

Storage

Walk records (routes, distance, duration, markers, dog profiles, photos) stay in a database on the device. We do not upload them to a developer cloud. There is no sign-up.

06 · Sharing

Sharing

We do not sell personal data, and we do not give it to anyone except as described above. What leaves the device is the minimum location needed for features, usage analytics after you agree, and the walk data described above in older feature-bearing apps when you separately consent to Gemini comments for walks of 20 minutes or more. Version 1.16.0 (213) and later does not send data to Gemini. If you use voice input, audio may go to the OS speech recognizer (Apple or Google). We do not send audio to our own servers.

07 · Deleting data and withdrawing consent

Deleting data and withdrawing consent

  • Records on the device: deleting the app deletes the walk records and profiles stored on the device.
  • Usage analytics: turn it off in Settings to withdraw consent. After that, we do not send new data to Firebase Analytics. How long Google keeps older data follows Google's policy.
  • Only in feature-bearing versions 1.16.0 (212) and earlier — Walk comments: turn this off in Settings to stop sending further walk data to Gemini. The app will show an on-device template, as it does for walks under 20 minutes.
  • Location, camera, photos, notifications, microphone, and speech recognition: you can turn off access for this app in iOS Settings at any time.

There is no in-app account deletion step, because there is no account.
